Strategic Growth Manager

As part of our ambitious growth strategy, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Strategic Growth Manager to lead our strategic growth function and work with the Senior Leadership Team to set the strategy for partnership working.

As the Strategic Growth Manager, you will be the principal relationship manager for Anchor’s key development partnerships. You will be responsible for securing engagement from core target local authorities and partners to develop a pipeline of long-term opportunities. Your role will involve alliances with developers, land promoters, investors, and public sector bodies to secure Anchor’s position as the partner of choice for older people’s affordable housing. You will work nationwide, supporting a new strategic approach to secure a pipeline of sites to deliver from 2027 onwards, and help Anchor grow by 500 homes per year.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Working with the Director of Land & Regeneration and Heads of service to lead the approval of new strategies for engaging with partners in the strategic land market, joint ventures, and large-scale renewal projects.
  • Managing the team to build a network of key partners for securing pipeline sites and scalable agreements for repeat business. This includes business development, bid preparation, building business cases, and negotiating contracts.
  • Working alongside partners’ principals and professional teams to agree on strategies and contractual structures to meet Anchor’s requirements.
  • Overseeing the activity of Anchor’s Land & Planning, Regeneration, and Design & Technical teams to deliver strategic opportunities and influence design and planning consents.
  • Instructing and directing legal and professional advisors to negotiate the best possible commercial deals for Anchor.
  • Leading schemes through the initial gateway approval and handover process, ensuring risk identification and management. Using appraisal, project management, and reporting software to support pipeline growth and internal controls.
  • Leading the team to build relationships with external parties to promote Anchor’s Development Strategy and generate new scheme opportunities.

About You

  • Good level of general education including numeracy and literacy. Membership of RICS, RTPI, CIOB, Prince 2, or APM qualification preferable, or accredited qualification with a route to membership.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the development process with a preference for insight into partnership development and delivery, especially with affordable housing providers.
  • Experience of leading and managing people.
  • Experience in promoting the development of strategies and business cases to support long-term partnerships and strategic investments.
  • Experience in meeting challenging KPI targets and service standards in a commercial environment.
  • Track record of delivering residential projects through the planning process across various local planning authorities.
  • Development viability knowledge essential with strong experience in financial appraisals.
  • Strong experience in working within the planning system, including policy and law in relation to C2 and C3 planning use classes.
  • Experience in managing budgets and reporting on cash flow.
  • Experience in managing consultant performance across multiple professional teams.
  • Proven experience in developing professional relationships with external and internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt well to change.
  • Experience in delivering excellent customer service and value for money within a high-performance team.
